The Class 12 college application timeline for US and UK applicants runs from June 2026 to May 2027 and has five hard dates that nothing else moves around: UCAS on 15 October 2026 for Oxford, Cambridge and medicine, US early rounds on 1 November, the University of California on 30 November, US Regular Decision on 1 to 5 January 2027, and the UCAS equal-consideration deadline on 13 January. Everything else, including Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Ashoka and the aid forms, fits around those five. The full calendar is below, followed by what each month actually involves.
The reason this year needs a written calendar rather than a memory is that seven admissions systems overlap on one student, and the board exams sit in the middle. A student applying to Cornell, Imperial, Waterloo and NUS has deadlines in October, November, January, February and March, interviews in December, predicted grades due in October, boards in February and March, and decisions arriving from December to July. Most of what goes wrong in Class 12 is not a weak essay; it is a missed form.

June to August: the list, the essay and the early target
The summer before Class 12 does three jobs. The college list moves from the fifteen-to-twenty draft of Grade 11 to a working list of ten to twelve across two destinations, with the family's budget applied to each US college through the net price calculator. The personal essay goes through its first three drafts, which is where the topic gets found and usually replaced; the process is in how to find a college essay topic. And the Early Decision target is chosen by late September, not in October when the supplements are still rough, and only from colleges the family can pay for at the calculator figure, because ED is binding.
Two administrative things also belong here. Ask the school in July for the predicted grades it will submit to UCAS and to Hong Kong and Singapore, and correct an under-prediction now rather than in October. And on 1 August, the day the Common App opens, request the transcript, the school profile and the counsellor recommendation, so the counsellor has three months and not three weeks.
September to October: UCAS, Oxbridge tests and the aid forms
The UK comes first. An application to Oxford or Cambridge, or to medicine, dentistry or veterinary science anywhere in the UK, must be submitted by 18:00 UK time on 15 October 2026. Oxford now uses the UAT-UK tests it shares with Cambridge, TMUA, ESAT and TARA, sat at Pearson VUE centres in India from 12 to 16 October with booking closed on 28 September; medicine uses the UCAT, taken between July and September, and law the LNAT. The UCAS statement is now three structured questions totalling 4,000 characters, and one set of answers goes to all five choices, so the five courses must be one subject family. The teacher writing the reference needs a briefing document in September, and so do the two US recommenders; most Indian school letters are two paragraphs of adjectives unless someone shows the teacher what a useful letter contains.
The CSS Profile typically opens on 1 October and is due at many colleges with the application, which for an ED applicant means early November. It carries a fee for international students, and waivers are not automatic. Colleges that use the ISFAA instead set their own dates. Merit scholarships at Vanderbilt, Emory and WashU have separate early-December deadlines and, at Duke, UNC and Vanderbilt, a separate interview.
November: the heaviest month
The 1 November deadline covers Early Decision, Early Action and Restrictive Early Action at almost every selective US college; the 7 November SAT is the last one most of them accept for early rounds. The University of California filing period runs 1 to 30 November with no essays beyond the four personal insight questions, no recommendations and no tests considered. HKU's main round closes on 26 November, and it is the earliest firm outcome an Indian student can hold: first-round offers and scholarships come from early December. Two school nominations that families routinely miss fall in November: the University of Toronto's Lester B. Pearson scholarship and UBC's International Scholars awards both need the school to act. Ashoka's Round 1 typically closes in late November with the Aptitude Test in early December, and most of its need-based aid is allocated in the first two rounds. And for anyone also on the exam route in India, JEE Main session 1 registration opens this month and CLAT sits on 6 December.
December: early decisions and Oxbridge interviews
Oxbridge interviews run online in the first three weeks of December and are supervised problem-solving in the subject, not conversations about motivation. US early decisions arrive in mid-December; a deferral gets a letter of continued interest and a finished set of Regular Decision supplements over the winter break. NUS opens in early December, and submitting all four Singapore applications before the end of the month puts the file in the earliest assessment batch. Hong Kong offers begin, and an HKU or HKUST scholarship in hand changes how aggressive the RD list can afford to be.
January to February: RD, UCAS, Canada and the mid-year report
Regular Decision and ED II close on 1 to 5 January at most US colleges. The UCAS equal-consideration deadline is 13 January 2027. UBC, McGill, the University of Toronto and Waterloo Engineering close around 15 January; the Waterloo Admission Information Form and video interview are due 1 February, and a strong AIF genuinely adds to the admission average. The school sends the mid-year or predicted marks in January, and for CBSE and ISC students that mark is what US and UK offices read, since the board result arrives after decisions.
Cambridge releases decisions on 27 January 2027 and Oxford typically in the second week of January; check the Oxford page for the exact date. Other UK offers arrive on a rolling basis from November to May. Ashoka Round 2 closes in late January with results in April. Canadian early offers for strong files begin in February. And NUS closes in late February, with SMU, SUTD and NUS interviews running through the spring.
March to April: boards in the middle of decision season
Boards sit in February and March while the University of California releases decisions through March, US Regular Decision arrives in late March, NTU closes on 19 March, and Ashoka Round 3 closes in April. The student's job in these weeks is the board exams; the family's job is to keep a spreadsheet of every offer with its total cost, aid, course structure and deadline, so that the comparison in April is done on numbers.
April is when the choice is made. The final step in our method is exactly this conversation, with the family rather than for them.
May: deposits, replies and the visa file
Commit to one US college by 1 May with the deposit; UC's Statement of Intent to Register is also 1 May. UCAS firm and insurance choices are due by the June reply deadline that UCAS sets for the January cohort. Canadian deposits are typically due by 1 June. Board results in May confirm conditional offers at UK, Canadian, Singaporean, Hong Kong and Australian universities, and Singapore's outcomes arrive in batches from mid-May to the end of July, which is why Singapore should never be the only application.
The visa file opens the day the offer is accepted. US: the I-20 from the college, the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350, the MRV fee of USD 185, the new USD 250 visa integrity fee being phased in during 2026, and an F-1 interview between May and July. UK: the CAS from the university, funds held for 28 days covering first-year fees plus GBP 1,529 a month in London or GBP 1,171 elsewhere for nine months, and the Immigration Health Surcharge of GBP 776 a year. Canada: the Provincial Attestation Letter with the offer, proof of funds of CAD 23,448 for living costs plus first-year tuition, and longer processing for Indian applicants than the other destinations. Australia: the subclass 500 at AUD 2,500 with Genuine Student answers and AUD 29,710 in living-cost evidence, four to eight weeks, for a July 2027 start. Singapore and Hong Kong: the university sponsors the Student's Pass or student visa after acceptance. The deadlines resource keeps all of these in one place.
Interviews across the year
Interviews arrive in four waves. Hong Kong in December for HKU Business, Law and Medicine and for scholarship candidates; Oxbridge in the first three weeks of December; US alumni interviews from December to February, and scholarship interviews at Duke, UNC and Vanderbilt in the same window; SMU, SUTD, NUS College and NUS Medicine from February to April; and Ashoka, Plaksha and the IIM IPM in India from December to May. Preparation is the same in all cases: three tiers of questions, from definitions through structured analysis to open-ended ethics, and mock rounds with feedback rather than rehearsed answers, which is what interview preparation covers.
Starting in August of Class 12: what is still possible
Most Indian students begin serious research in Class 12, and a student opening this page in August with no list, no essay and no test score is the norm rather than the exception. The honest position is that the profile is fixed and the application is not. Every deadline in the calendar above is still reachable except the ones that needed the school or a competition to act in Grade 11.
What is still open, in order of urgency:
- Testing. The 3 October and 7 November SAT sittings reach every 1 November early round and every January deadline, with registration closing about two weeks before each. Six weeks of preparation is enough for a student already near target on a practice test and not enough for one who is not, in which case apply without a score where that is allowed and drop the colleges that require one; whether to submit a middling SAT score is its own decision.
- The UK. UCAS closes on 13 January for everything except Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry and veterinary science, and a student starting in August can still make 15 October if the school will produce predicted grades and a reference within six weeks. Ask the school this week; the answer decides whether Oxbridge is possible this cycle.
- The US early round. 1 November is twelve weeks away. Early Action to two or three colleges is still sensible. Early Decision is not, because the family has not had time to run the net price calculators and the essay will still be rough.
- Everything else. Canada in mid-January, HKU on 26 November, Singapore from December to March, Australia's July intake and Ashoka's November round all admit largely on marks and open later, which makes them the natural core of a late-start list.
What is closed: competitions whose October deadlines you have not started, research that cannot be finished by December, and any summer program. Do not buy a certificate to fill the gap. A reader notices a Grade 12-only activities list, and an honest description of what exists reads better than an addition the student cannot discuss. A student with 90 percent and little else has real options in the UK, Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong that a US-only list would hide, and the list should be built accordingly.
If you are in Class 12 this month
- September: the ED target decided and the calculator figure written down; UCAS three questions in draft; teachers and counsellor briefed; Oxbridge test booked before 28 September.
- By 15 October: UCAS submitted if Oxbridge or medicine is on the list; CSS Profile started on 1 October.
- By 1 November: every early application submitted after a portal-by-portal check; the 7 November SAT booked only if a retake is genuinely needed.
- November: UC by 30 November, HKU by 26 November, Pearson and UBC nominations chased with the school, Ashoka Round 1 if India is in play.
- December to 5 January: early results handled, RD supplements finished, UCAS submitted well before 13 January, Canada by 15 January.
This calendar assumes a student applying to two or three destinations that read a profile. A student on the JEE, NEET or CLAT route has a different year, with JEE Main in January and April, CLAT in December and CUET in May, and should not be running a Common App in parallel unless the marks can carry both. A student applying only to Canada or Australia can ignore most of the autumn and concentrate on the January portals, the AIF, and the prerequisites.
